I have been a big fan of using SoundCloud to explore new music...even if it's old music with a new instrument. Check out this rad cover of Dave Matthews Band's "Seek Up."

Thanks for watching, Ken! Automated testing of browser-based web apps in an integrated way is hard and leaves a lot of room for untested code. But in the case of a web-based API, the test cases are very clear. I completely agree with your point about refactoring. The clear separation of all server-side activity into a web-based API and the clean contract between that and the purely client-side UI layer is one of my favorite reasons for developing web apps this way.

I've struggled on several projects with the question of how much testing is appropriate, and I've often felt, like you state, there is a business-case for not testing, or limited testing, especially for a sole developer.

Recently this topic came up on an internal API project I'm contributing to. It is very complicated to unit test every layer, and for some layers it yields little or no benefit. It can also make refactoring unnecessarily difficult. Focusing on the API as a whole makes more sense to me. Though I'm sure some TDD enthusiasts would mock me for saying so. (forgive the pun)

I'd be curious to know how this works out for you in the long run, and if you find that the integration testing is adequate. Perhaps other contributors will have a different opinion, and if so it would be great to hear their thoughts on the subject.

Keep up the good work. I'm enjoying these posts!

I've done this a few times. All the reasons above are good. It also feels great not having to go the bathroom to poop as often! It's very liberating in more than one way! I think I want to do this more often.

I recently returned from a trip to Barcelona where the city is working hard to finish Gaudi's Sagrada Familia, a breathtaking cathedral in the middle of the city. When designing the temple, Gaudi used images from nature as inspiration. I'm not Christian, and while I can appreciate the beauty and history of old European cathedrals, they rarely touch me in a meaningful way. However, upon entering the Sangrada Familia, I was blown away. I literally gasped. As I looked around I realized what I was actually moved by, it was the scenes and images from nature that were designed into each square foot of the space. The columns represented trees, the points on top represented lavender blossoms. Experiencing nature throughout the cathedral made the space more sacred to me, a non-Christian, than any other temple I've ever set foot in.
